Ideal Wine Temperature

The ideal temperature to store wines is between 55ºF and 58ºF (13ºC–15ºC). However, any temperature between 40º–65ºF (5º–18ºC) will suffice as long as it remains constant. The same change each day will harm your wines by ageing them too rapidly.

The most important rule when storing wine is to avoid large temperature changes or fluctuations. You'll no ...

Using Cooking Wine

Cooking wine is sort of a holdover from prohibition. People who grew up thinking Alcohol is Evil didn't want to have any in their homes. But they wanted those delicious flavors in cooking. Cooking wine seemed to be a reasonable compromise.

In essence, cooking wine is really bad wine that then has lots of salt added to it. This makes it pretty much undrinkable by anyone looking to 'get drunk'. However, being a combination of bad wine and lots of salt, it also is pretty much nasty for add ...

Chardonnay
This grape has been described as the happiest of all combinations and has expanded widely from its Burgundian roots, being now planted virtually world-wide. It is at its best on Chalky soils, but is liable to suffer from Chlorosis and powdery mildew. The yields are moderate and the wine can lose its character when these are pushed too far. It gives wines that normally age in wood, which gives it a round buttery flavour.

Counting Carbs With Wine
The recent health claims that wines have antioxidants in them that may block free radicals, prevent heart disease, cancer, and other conditions associated with aging seems to have some validity. Polyphenol, catechin, and cholesterol-reducing resveratrol are found predominately in red wines in various degrees. One suggestion as to why some of these antioxidants are present in red wines is that grapes that have been distressed during their growth will exhibit the highest level of antioxidants. Red ...
